I suggest getting at least the Moon guidebook (which contains maps & directions) and as many of the printed maps listed below as you can manage, if you intend on driving. Getting a little lost is half the fun. Bringing a compass is also recommended for both hiking and driving. Additionally, check the WEB and Costa Rican local publications. No one source of information seems 100% accurate or complete. The maps are available in downtown San Jose, but buy them ahead if you can.

The Web Site includes photo tour, tips, itinerary, and updates. The book is newly released and the most current guide to Costa Rica listed here. This book contains some unique information not found in other travel guides.

This is a very complete guide to Costa Rica. I highly recommend the purchase of this book before your trip.

This guide hits the high points of Costa Rica from another viewpoint for the non-budget traveler. It is a good complement to Mr. Bakers book. However, I suggest being skeptical of the ads inserted by the publisher. The author does not have control of their content.
By John Howells
This is the guide to travel and retirement in Costa Rica that first sparked my interest in this country. For that, I am indebted to Mr. Howells.
Google Maps – Time marches on, Google Maps seems to be useful both on the WEB and with the mobile APP. But be careful as an inaccuracy was part of a border dispute between Nicaragua & Costa Rica!
Check out this WEB site! It holds Country, Province, City and National park online scalable maps and more. The maps are useful and also very much works of computer based art.
As an avid bike rider, where you have to pedal to recover from mistakes, the author learned the importance of accurate maps. His passions for both accuracy and Costa Rica shows in the quality of these maps. You can order & download these on line.

The Nicoya Peninsula Travel Guide on the Internet – A well done guide to the Nicoya including a section on Playa Junquillal and area. Be sure to check the local map of Junquillal.
WANDER IN PARADISE // Treasured Memories from Playa Junquillal, Guanacaste, Costa Rica – An impressive video shot in the Playa Junquillal area. I even recognize some rocks from our beach walks.
COSTA RICA IN 4K 60fps (ULTRA HD) – An incredible video from people that must love reptiles. More Creepy crawlers than I have seen in Costa Rica in all my years.
