Beautiful Playa Junquillal (hoon-key-yal) is located on the North Pacific Coast a bit south of Playa Tamarindo in Costa Rica. Now ten minutes from the nearest paved road, Playa Junquillal was originally and still is a natural and un-crowded Tico (Costa Rican) beach just next to the small town of Paraíso. A few travelers from around the world discovered it and stayed, adding an international flavor with small restaurants, bars and lodging. It is a quiet and tranquil area providing a good place to relax, fish, swim, surf, hike, experience the rare natural coastal environment, enjoy Tico hospitality and generally unwind from the high-speed world we live in.

Las Brisas del Mar (The Ocean Breezes) in Playa Junquillal is a US-standard, gated, condominium complex and is just 50 meters from the ocean on this beautiful beach, which varies from white to gray sands along its length. On your way to the ocean you walk past the sparkling, Olympic sized pool, complete with swim up bar (BYOB and Bartender). The sun sets around 6:00 PM year-round, and each sunset is amazing. Breakfast on the balcony of this second floor, oceanfront unit, with the sounds of the surf in the background and the sights of the lush surrounds, is magic.

Even though remotely located, the opportunity for outside activities exists. Pictured is a horseback beach ride from Playa Junquillal to famous surf beach Playa Negra. Deep sea fishing trips for yellow fin tuna or dorado, dinner for the lucky, are a favorite. Surfers and Surf fishermen play right in front of this complex. Morning Golf at Hacienda Pinilla, with a 19th hole stop at Playa Avellanas, is another winner. Playa Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Santa Cruz, Guaitil, Rincon de la Vieja, Playa Flamingo, Playa Hermosa and Playa Coco are some of the available day trip destinations.

Completed in 1998, the condo is a 1600 sq. foot, vaulted ceilings unit with two bedrooms and two baths with showers. Sorry, no bathtubs or TVs. Choose between centrally air-conditioned or open the many windows and enjoy the ocean breezes. Linens, towels, a kitchen with appliances & full accessories and a laundry room with a washer & dryer are all ready for your use. The condo accommodations will sleep 4 or 6 using the fold down sofa/futon in the living room that converts into a queen size bed.

I’m sorry to report that currently this unit is not for rent. Owner direct rentals are often not a net money making enterprise in Costa Rica but they sure are time consuming. Offsetting this is a joy that comes from helping people discover Costa Rica and at the same time helping the local economy. However, the final blow came when I realized I could not justify the time and money involved in satisfying the official bureaucracy of two countries, Costa Rica and the USA. By request and as a service to visitors to our area and the community I will continue with the travel information part of this WEB site. Playa Junquillal remains a nice place to visit!
